Watkin Field Invitational Fly-In

On October 4, 2003 Bill Sparks who manages a private field in Raymore, MO. had invited the 49th Squadron to come to the field and fly with the Watkins Field group. It was a beautiful day. A total of 19 pilots showed up between the two groups. Bill also fed the group with great grilled smoked sausage and hot dogs, chips, dessert. It was a great day. Below are some of the photos taken of this event. Thanks again Bill.

Was a beautiful day indeed! Watkins Field is a great place to fly

View of the pits looking n-nw.

Bill had just mowed the n-s runway as well as the e-w runway.

Closer view of the pits. On the right is Don Smith of Watkins Field and Sqadron member Hubert Speers.

Good company, good airplanes, good food, and great weather. Just doesn't get any better than this!

Don Steven's Gee Bee Model Y on take off. Is a Pacific Aeromodels product with a Saito 150 4 stroke.

Fly by of the Gee Bee Y

Don makes a pass prior to landing.

Nice wheel landing of the Gee Bee by Don.

Carl Lindsey's big 1/3 scale J-3 Cub powered by an O.S.Gemini twin cylinder 4 cycle.

Fly by of Cliff Albrights Hanger 9 Taylorcraft. Powered by a Zenoah G-23.

Cliff brings the T-Craft in for a landing.

Looks like Cliff wanted to mow the E-W runway a little closer with his 1/2 scale Briggs-Stratton lawnmower.

Fly by of the....mower?

Al Myers made friend with the Watkins Field mascot "Jessie" (the hot dog Al gave Jessie also helped)

Jerry Edwards really relaxing after flying and lunch provided by Bill Sparks and our Watkins Field hosts.
